Final Service Trip

My final service team came to Yunnan last week.  The middle school students from Hong Kong were eager to dig and work hard to serve the villagers.  They enjoyed being outdoors and learning more about the rural village where we lived and worked.  It was a blessing to meet another great group of people who came to Yunnan with such a desire to show His love.

Such a gracious hostess; she treated us with kindness the whole time we were in the village

A village home

This man is carrying a bag of bricks on each side of the crossbow and is hiking up the mountain with them over his shoulder.  The villagers are so hardworking and strong, many times it is unbelievable.

Thumbs up, even when they're working hard!

The farming in the region yields only a small income, hence the poverty in the village.  As an additional source of income, the villagers make bamboo baskets and sell them for a small price in the local towns.  These baskets are so durable and are used for their daily tasks -- often to haul vegetables, jugs of water, bricks or stones, firewood -- needless to say, the baskets are the real deal and are super strong.  To show their appreciation, the villagers made us each a bamboo basket.

Our government partners -- we've been through a lot together... shared lots of laughs and toasts and awkward moments.  One thing is certain though, they loved to tease me!  (not that I ever deserved it : )
